The client bought a ruin to convert into an Algarve guesthouse with an off-grid solar power system. Guesthouse visitors sometimes use a lot of electricity, which could be challenging as the property is north-facing and so doesn’t have a long solar day.
For reliable solar power in a shady area, the client needed low-light solar panels in sets to maximise charge potential. A full suite of Victron products, including the ColourX internet monitor portal, allows remote monitoring of the solar system to ensure everything runs smoothly for their guests.
- 40 x Sharp thin film 120w panels
- 2 x Victron MPPT regulator 70A each
- 5kw Victron Quattro inverter
- BMV battery monitor
- Victron ColourX internet monitor portal
- Rolls System 5000 6v Blocks
- Installation, cabling switches etc

“The Victron products upload production, consumption and storage data online, creating a complete picture of the life of the solar system. It even sends email alerts to the client (and to me!) if something’s not working to its full potential, so we can make sure the solar system lasts as long as possible.”
“Our solar system from Solalgarve is reliable and produces plenty of electricity for our Algarve guesthouse. The online controls make it really simple to monitor and care for our solar panels and batteries, all from the comfort of our own sofa. It really has been worth every penny.”
